Chia Seeds for Inflammations

Inflammation is the body’s natural response to infection or injury. It assists the body to fight off microbial infections and may lead to reddening or swelling of the affected area. Inflammations can be harmful when the body mistakenly perceives its own cell, tissues or organs as infections. This results into increase of heart diseases and cancer. Chronic inflammation is characterized by an increase in inflammatory markers in the blood.

Common factors which may lead to inflammation include smoking, lack of exercise and poor dieting. Regular consumption of Chia has been shown to reduce inflammatory markers in the blood. Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and proteins which are all beneficial in reversing inflammation. Studies show that a high intake of omega-3 fatty acids can reduce joint pain and inflammation as well as joint stiffness in people with arthritis.

Chia seeds are a great natural source of quercetin which is flavonoid and antioxidant. Quercetin is highly effective in fighting inflammation particularly associated with joint pain. It can therefore be used to reduce joint pain for people with rheumatoid arthritis.

Chia seeds are rich in zinc and copper which are essential minerals for people who suffer from chronic inflammations. These two minerals help in the production of enzymes that fight inflammation by neutralizing free radicals. Copper is particularly essential as it helps the body to generate connective tissues, ligaments and tendons which stabilize joints. Zinc helps in the repair of joints. Chia seeds provide natural anti-inflammatory nutraceuticals that are useful in suppressing the incessant aggravation of rheumatoid arthritis.

Due to their high fiber content, Chia seeds are a great source of dietary fiber. Chia seeds contain a low amount of digestible carbs that are anti-inflammatory in nature. Diabetics can incorporate Chia into their diet in order to control weight fluctuations. Eating a high-fiber diet has been linked to weight loss and a reduction in visceral fat. This is because fiber fills up the stomach for longer leading to reduced food intake.

Chia seeds contain a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids which may be used to reduce this inflammatory response. It is a great natural source for increasing omega-3 and antioxidant intake, its nutritional value also surpasses that of animal sources like fish. A high intake of omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants reduces the chances of developing an allergic reaction. It also boosts immunity and protects against free radicals.

A regular consumption of Chia seeds may be of great nutritional benefit and relief from inflammation. It is therefore recommended for people with inflammation related health conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and obesity. Chia seeds may not provide significant relief for advanced symptoms, but it is a super nutrient-dense seed to incorporate into your diet.
